Orrelle Cornelius collection, circa 1920-1942.

The Orrelle Cornelius Collection includes original plays -- The Whippoorwill, The Tie that Binds, and Mother's Old Home -- written by Orrelle. Also included in the collection are playbills from her UC theater productions, dramatic department notices, personal & theater-related photographs, correspondence, newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous materials. Orrelle Cornelius was a UC theater director, 1928-1942. The collection includes playbills and photos of the University Players (theater group from the University of Chattanooga), 1930's; playbills, newspaper clippings of the Little Theater of Chattanooga, 1920's; and a play typescript of The Whipporwill and other plays by Cornelius as well as related newspaper clippings. Also included are a few personal photos.

Little information is known about Orrelle Fidlar Cornelius (Mrs. D.W. Cornelius). She was a University of Chattanooga theater production director for the University Players from 1928-1942. She was hired to this position in order to provide additional extracurricular offerings to the UC student body. She wrote at least 3 original plays: The Whippoorwill, The Tie that Binds, and Mother's Old Home.
